As a Catholic school, we feel it is very important to live out our faith by actively participating in service. All of our students are taught at an early age to be involved in community service. When students reach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, they have service hour requirements to fulfill.
- Grade 6 – 5 hours
- Grade 7 – 10 hours
- Grade 8 – 15 hours
One–half of the service requirement must be completed by the end of January. All remaining hours must be completed by the end of April. Students can begin working on service hours for the next year in May, and can participate in community service during the summer months.
Performing community service is a great way to develop student responsibility and character. Students also learn to experience the joy that comes from doing for others, which is a gift that can bring fuller meaning to their lives.
Many community service opportunities are offered right here at school. Students are notified of these opportunities through postings in homeroom or daily morning/afternoon announcements.
Examples of community service that can be used are:
- Altar serving at weekend Mass.
- Tour guides for open houses.
- Volunteering at a soup kitchen.
Upon completion of a service activity, students should complete a community service form and have it signed by the leader/supervisor of the volunteer work.
Feel free to contact Mrs. Wlodarczyk at any time with any questions you may have.
