Spanish is offered from grades K-8. All classes meet for the full year. In the lower grade levels, students will begin exploring Spanish as a foreign language. Some of the topics that will be covered include the alphabet, basic numbers, colors, greetings, and the calendar.
Fifth and Sixth grade classes are structured to be vocabulary-based with some introductory grammar. Some of the topics covered will be weather, school, telling time, body parts, feelings and emotions, likes and dislikes and target language culture.
The seventh and eighth grade curriculum has a heavy focus on grammatical structures. At the end of the year, students should be proficient in basic-intermediate reading, writing, listening, and speaking of the target language.
At all course levels, interactive projects and activities emphasize the importance of learning languages other than English and encourage students to speak, read, and write in the target language.
In the spring, students will celebrate their learning with World Fest, a special evening focusing on international language, foods, music, arts, culture, geography, and world missions.
